About the Yale Young African Scholars Program 2025

The Yale Young African Scholars (YYAS) program is an intensive academic and enrichment program designed for African secondary school students who are planning to pursue tertiary education and wish to make a meaningful impact as young leaders on the continent. The program offers both an online option and a residential option for 2025.

• YYAS College Prep Workshop (Online): Admission is offered to approximately 200 students across Africa. The program focuses on career exploration, university application preparation, and the transition from secondary school to university. Attendance is strictly required for all program days, and students who complete the program will receive a YYAS Certificate of Completion.

The YYAS Residential Program offers a tuition-free experience for students attending the residential summit in Kenya. The residential option also provides housing, meals, and academic materials.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Yale Young African Scholars Program 2025, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Be between the ages of 14-18 during the program dates (born between August 18, 2006, and July 17, 2011).
• Be able to participate in a rigorous academic curriculum conducted in English.
• Be a citizen or permanent resident of an African country, or a refugee living in an African country.
• Currently attend secondary school in Africa.
• Be in 10th or 11th grade (or the international equivalent).
• For students in the Northern Hemisphere, graduate from secondary school no earlier than May/June 2026 and no later than May/June 2027.
• For students in the Southern Hemisphere, graduate no earlier than November/December 2025 and no later than November/December 2026.

• A PDF Certificate of Completion to strengthen university applications.
• A tuition-free summit in Kenya, including free housing, meals, and academic materials.
• Need-based travel grants for students living outside of Kenya to assist with transportation costs. All students admitted to the program are automatically considered for Travel Grant eligibility.
• Guidance and support for travel logistics, including assistance with travel documentation such as passports or visas.
